The King is gone. Will he be forgotten?
Avicii held his final live performance yesterday at Ushuaia Ibiza Beach Hotel before retiring from touring at age 26. In an emotional letter posed on his website, he announced earlier this year (April, 2016) that he’s quitting the live performances.
"To me it was something I had to do for my health,” he later said in an interview. “The scene was not for me. It was not the shows and not the music. It was always the other stuff surrounding it that never came naturally to me. All the other parts of being an artist. I'm more of an introverted person in general. It was always very hard for me. I took on board too much negative energy, I think."
Fans rushed to watch the EDM super-star perform his hits, such as Brother and Wake Me Up, and, after the show, some Twittered to share their thoughts on the night.
To be honest, I was expected more posts on the Internet after his last show. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Youtube were rather silent about the event. I searched, and searched and searched again… Only few posts.
My first conclusion: The king is gone! The king is already forgotten!
It’s all about promotion in EDM and DJ-ing at this top level. Don’t get me wrong, Avicii is a real talent, but without the proper PR, you don’t exist in the EDM World. Avicii had a high fee (100k to 400k per live performance). It is more then obvious for me that after his announcement back in April, the people behind the Avicii money making machine lost their interests. There are plenty of DJs out there ready to take over.
Avicii knew a secret: EDM is dying. It is everywhere, too much, too fast and too many fake DJs out there. With his album Stories, he wanted to get closer to the roots of the dance music, to make music with more feeling and less noise. He clearly aspired to something more deep then EDM, maybe he wanted to become a new Max Martin. But it was a bridge too far…. .
Avicii was (is) one of the planet’s most successful DJs. He was the king! But the king is gone! I hope he will not make pathetic comebacks like Michael Jordan. He is gone for good and for me, he is not forgotten. Good luck dude!
So wake me up when it's all over When I'm wiser and I'm older All this time I was finding myself And I didn't know I was lost
