The Paphos 2017 Opening Ceremony
Paphos. The small but vibrant city in Cyprus, hiding away in the Mediterranean waiting to be explored. A city closely associated with ancient Greek mythology and culture, trickled with ancient sites and monuments; but also this years European Capital of Culture of 2017.
Last Saturday, I attended the official opening ceremony in the town square as a journalist and was positively surprised. I would like to begin by thanking the organisation and marketing team by providing me with a press accreditation for the event.
The opening show presented a cultural experiences including intriguing dance performances, a dancing ballerina hanging about 100 feet in the air and many other fascinating performances by a hand full of very talented local performers.
The ceremony starts off with a few speeches by the organisation.
Some local youngsters carry illuminated prisms to create and assemble a huge statue raised by a crane.
Ribbon dancers steal the show with a beautiful graceful performance.
…and various dance groups take over to end the performance in style.
I can only be proud as i admire the exquisite opening performance in my current home town of Paphos.
See below a video from the opening ceremony. Well done!
I am looking forward for a great 2017 in Paphos. And for all my readers I will say: Why don’t you come over and see it for yourself. Ryanair comes to Paphos among other h low-cost airlines. Paphos is in 2017 the starting point for a wonderful mix: great weather, beautiful sea, and culture.
Hi Andy. As a follower of your blog I discovered Paphos as a possible destination for my Summer vacation. It will be great to spend some time relaxing on the beach and combine this with some cultural events. Where can I find more information about the events planned for 2017?
Have a look on the following website.

I checked the weather and April looks great! I am looking forward.
Any tips for a great place to eat?
One of my favs is Oniro by the sea A great place, magic location and probably the best cocktails in town. Unfortunately, you will need a car or a taxi to get there.
